What Happens When My Pet is Ready to Cross the Rainbow Bridge?

At Heartland Veterinary Clinic, we understand that saying goodbye to your cherished companion is an incredibly emotional experience. Our dedicated team is committed to providing compassionate support and ensuring a peaceful farewell for your beloved pet.

Arrival and Compassion Room

Upon arrival, you will be guided to our exclusive Compassion Room—a serene space thoughtfully designed with soft blankets, comfortable seating, gentle lighting, and a private exit to offer discretion during this sensitive time. Once settled, we can address any necessary paperwork and discuss aftercare options. Many pet parents prefer to handle these details beforehand, allowing them to focus entirely on their pet during the remaining time together.

Spending Time Together

You are encouraged to spend as much time as you need with your pet, offering love and comfort in these final moments. We understand that everyone grieves differently; whether you choose to linger or prefer a more expedited process, we are here to accommodate your wishes without any sense of rush.

Understanding the Procedure

Your veterinarian will walk you through the euthanasia process, answering any questions and providing reassurance. To ensure your pet's comfort, a gentle sedative is administered first, allowing them to relax into a deep, peaceful sleep while surrounded by your presence. Once your pet is fully at ease, we will proceed with the euthanasia medication, typically administered via an intravenous (IV) injection. This method is recognized for its quick and painless effect, ensuring a humane and compassionate passing.

Aftercare and Memorial Options

Following the procedure, you are welcome to spend additional private time with your pet to say your final goodbyes. We offer a range of aftercare services, including assistance with cremation arrangements, personalized urns, clay and/or ink paw prints, and other memorial keepsakes to honor your pet's memory.
